There are many of us who are stuck in a rut with our concepts of thinking.
We find it hard to move past those old tendencies of jumping to conclusions, and prejudging problems, and situations. It’s a new day and time with family life, personal life, and business life. So we must develop our minds into the powerful machine it can be.
Why is it so hard to drag ourselves out of a rut into a different perspective in concepts of thinking?
My husband and I watched a movie a couple of nights ago called, “Iron Lady” with Meryl Streep, who portrayed the former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. I enjoyed the movie, and the most profound thing that struck me was this quote from the movie:
“Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
I have heard this quote before, and still find it to be quite powerful.
Over the past 30 years or so, I’ve studied many well established authors on thinking…the power of positive thinking, psycho cybernetics, some NLP (neuro linguistic programming), and I still find myself falling back into those old mind frames.
What is it going to take to develop better concepts of thinking?
When problems arise in our personal, or business lives, are we stressed to the max?
John Kehoe author of “Mind Power Into the 21st Century,” states that problems are an important, and valuable part of our lives, and instead of trying to eliminate them we should strive to understand exactly what they are. He continues to detail various scenarios of different individuals he has encountered, and how they learned to change their perspective to “There are no problems, only opportunities.”
If we ask a better question, we get a better answer. So let’s ask ourselves productive questions that help us develop better concepts in thinking.
My son, and I, enjoy watching shows on survivalist, and on Secret Service preparedness tactics. Both groups have to be prepared for anything and everything. We also should be prepared, and have keen insights on problems that may arise in our businesses, and home life, except if we are always looking for the snags or upheavals in life, doesn’t that take the joy out of living? Actually it all has to do with balance.
International Coaches, Jamie and Tonia Barclay, on a recent webinar stated that what we focus on, expands. If we think before we speak, listen to the ideas of others, try to see another side of each situation before we make a decision, and mull these new concepts over before we make our decisions, will this expand and change our
concepts of thinking?
What do you think?
