Affiliate Marketing: Tips for Beginners

So, you’ve done your homework and have decided what you want to blog about, or what affilitate product you want to promote.

Good for you!

Now that you have your blog or product in mind, I have a few questions and tips for you.

Do you have a domain name?
Do you have a hosting company?
Do you know how to use a site template for posting?
Do you have an anti-spam plug-in?
Do you have an e-mail marketing software or service?
Do you have a way to promote your site?
Do you have a mentor?

These are just a few of the beginning steps for blogging or affiliate product promotion. Of course, you may have figured out a way to blog or promote products without all this.

Again, Good for you!

Not all of us are that together, but some are. For those of you who don’t have it all figured out, then here are a few steps for you:

Choose your domain name. A lot of people like to brand themselves. Some like to get started with a domain name that is keyword friendly to what you are blogging about, or the product you’re promoting. I’m going to give you what I chose and I’m currently  affiliated with only one of them. I just like these products. You choose for yourself.

For my domain, I went with Name Cheap. They have inexpensive domain names, and your domain can be pointed toward your hosting agent. You can host with Name Cheap if you like.

I chose Hostgator for my hosting company because they have 24/7 support by phone. Some hosting companies only have e-mail support and you have to wait for them to get back with you. They are good companies but, there’s nothing greater than having someone walk you through something you have not an inkling about, especially when you needed them yesterday.

The site template is a program within your c-panel (control panel) of your hosting company that gives you the necessary tools to write your blog, or promote your affiliate product with. It is like a document writer within the system. I chose WordPress. You’ll find WordPress inside of Fantastico. This is a program that is easy to use, and has numerous free templates.

An anti-spam plug-in stops all of those spammers from hitting your site/sites with unwanted comments or products. I like Akismet. If you have more than one website, Akismet has a service plan where you can pay one price to monitor multiple websites. They take care of the spam for you.

An e-mail marketing software or service is a way to capture names from your site to build a lists of clients to blog and promote your products to. I went with AWeber. You also are able to use this service for your various sites.

Site promotion is very necessary for your domain to be successful. You have to get your name out there, your product and blog. Subscribe to other blogs, read product reveiws, use Facebook and Twitter to bring clients in. Submit articles to e-magazines. Also, use word of mouth. Get your friends to help bring others to your site. I personally submit articles to, I use Twitter and Facebook, and I read and subscribe to other blogs. Get acquainted with like minded folks and promote your site.

Having a mentor saves you a lot of time and money. You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. This is someone who’s already been where you are, and can show you an easier path, tips and insider secrets to the path you’re traveling.

Now that you have a few of the beginning steps down, have fun, get busy, and enjoy the journey. Success may not be right around the corner, but it’s on your path.

Woman’s Wealth System Review

As a woman, have you ever thought about a work from home job?

There are many good products out there, but for a woman, this is my favorite pick:

The Woman’s Wealth System, by Concetta Bibens and Terra Goeres.

These two ladies have designed an affiliate marketing program exclusively for women. Bibens has worked in affiliate marketing for a while, and has a proven track record for success. The Bibens/Goeres team gives you the help, and the info you need to know, to succeed in an affiliate marketing business from home.

The program at $97 is a good value for all you receive. Sometimes you can even get that with a $30 discount to bring the price down $67.

The Ins and Outs of Online Product and Service Reviews

When it comes to home buying, realtors always say, “Location, Location, Location.” So what do we say when it comes to product or service reviews? “Research, Research, Research!” This is the best way to do your due diligence to avoid “buyer’s remorse” for ourselves, and the potential customer or affiliate.

Many of us tend to go with the impulse buy when those bright and shiny things darken our doorsteps, but resist the urge to splurge until you’ve checked it out. With all the brilliant marketers and marketing campaigns out there to draw you into that miracle product or service, you may have a battle in store for you. Again, take a breath, a step back, and a good look. Haven’t you heard, “Patience is a virtue.” When it comes to product review we want quality, again for ourselves and our potential client.

These are questions to ponder as you look at each item or service:

  • How does the cost compare with similar products?
  • What are the advantages of the product or service?
  • What are the disadvantages?
  • Is the product/service easy to use or assemble?
  • Are the instructions written clearly and easy to understand?
  • Is there a customer service number or e-mail address for support issues?
  • What is the return policy, if unsatisfied?
  • Would you recommend this product/service to someone else?
  • Why or why not?

There are several good ways of checking value by looking online or offline at different places:

  • Go to Google and research your item
  • Go to Amazon
  • Try eBay
  • Ask a friend or family member
  • Go to a local grocery or department store, if they carry your product
  • Try ClickBank

My son says he reviews products on YouTube. Well, that’s a new one for me for product review, but one to consider.

Also remember when buying, some sites have return limits for products. If you continually buy and return, you can be blocked from any future buying. Many companies consider this abuse, so be really sure before you buy.

After you’ve researched these issues, then narrow the products or services down to one or a few, and go for it. Write your article/blog on your product or service review. Don’t forget to touch on each question above, and write a good summary. Everyone wants to know the ins and outs of the items you’ve reviewed. If you’ve been diligent, you can be confident to sign your name to it.

Happy review to you.

Affiliate Marketing: Before You Begin

One of the main principles that I’ve found over and over again in many of the affiliate marketing programs I’ve reviewed is that you must have the right mindset for success, and be coach-able.  For most of us success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process that takes time; like a runner in a marathon. Be prepared and be willing to expect that success will take time. When we’re excited about something we want to jump right in and get started.  That’s great…get started, but remember you may not be an instant success.

An example that I read in a book many years ago explained success like a race car driver.  For the driver to succeed and keep his car on the track he has to focus and look to where he wants to go. For success in online affiliate marketing, or anything else, you must write down your goals, plod ahead, and keep your focus on the finish line.  A famous quote from the richest man in the world says this:

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Proverbs 29:18 KJV

There was no one wiser (or wealthier) than King Solomon, and his advice still holds true today. We must have a vision and write it down.

There are as many different opportunities in affiliate marketing as there are stars in the sky.  Choose the one/ones that appeal to you.  Keep an open mind, but also use common sense.  Not every program that claims to be #1 is #1, but that’s not to say it can’t be good. Choose wisely and whatever you choose, study your product inside and out.  This is not only about promoting products but signing your name to it, and  you want your name aligned with quality products and services.

While you’re at it study, research, and get a mentor.  A pastor that I’ve heard in recent years tells the story of how he and his assistant went to a seminar. After the program was over, the pastor asked his assistant to go purchase the speaker’s book for him. The book was something like $84 and the assistant questioned the pastor about buying it because of the expense.  The pastor stated, “That’s not expensive.  This man has put years of experience in this book, and the information that took him 20 years to acquire I can get in a few hours.”  Find a mentor.  Their knowledge can be invaluable.  You can also find tidbits of information by following like minded individuals on twitter or facebook.

Read other people’s sites to gain information.  Read articles on affiliate marketing.  Talk with an affiliate marketer; take notes and file all of those bits of information.  What you think doesn’t mean much at the moment may spark a bright idea in the future.  Buy a book.  A great one I’ve come across recently is, “Get Rich Click,” by Marc Ostrofsky.  It has all kinds of ideas that may give you a better understanding of the opportunities out there.

Find you product, find your path, write out your plan, and don’t try do it all yourself.  We need each other for success.
