Iron Sharpens Iron

by BG Jenkins

“As iron sharpens iron so one person sharpens another.”
-Proverbs 27:17

Have you ever heard someone say, “I don’t need anyone. I can do this all by myself.”

Well, maybe you can, but can you do it well all by yourself?

We all need each other. We need to bounce ideas off of each other, get different perspectives, and lean on others for support. Since I don’t know everything, I can’t say for sure that you couldn’t possibly do everything all by yourself, but for the most part we all need other people in some form or another. How would most of us haven gotten here without our parents’ help?

When it comes to Network Marketing, we need to associate with people smarter than we are, wiser than we are, who have been where we have been, and who have surpassed our wildest dreams. This is called a mentor. This person could (should) cut down your learning curve substantially. It’s not about learning it all, it’s about learning it well.

  • What do you need to know?
  • Where do you need to be?
  • Where do you want to be?
  • How do you plan to get there?
  • Put it on paper.

Consider mind mapping (a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea), or perhaps join a mastermind group (an alliance of two or more individuals dedicating themselves to a specific goal). This can get the creative juices flowing of all involved.

It also gets you talking with others who may think completely differently than you do and who have a few ideas that can help you see your horizon.

  • See where they are coming from
  • Analyze what they say
  • Add it to what you’ve learned
  • Discover the differences
  • Look at the similarities
  • Draw your conclusion.
  • Most of all listen.

You may be a great speaker, but you can’t learn if you’re always talking.

Afterwards, chime in with your ideas, and the sum of the parts may equal a whole lot of great things~

Like iron sharpening iron!

    1. Hi Elizabeth,

I haven’t heard that quote…but I love it. It’s sums it up. Thanks so much for commenting.

  1. This reminds me of something I wrote about a while ago about thinking you are mr know it all. Their are so many people out there who think they know it all and so don’t need anybody else or anybody else’s input. I believe that thinking should ALWAYS be avoided because you can never stop learning and there ARE people out there who will and do know more than you. If you want to truly get results, then surround yourself with the right people and learn from them. Ask them questions. Take criticisms etc.

This was a great post BG. Keep rocking on girl! 🙂

  2. Hi BG,
I agree completely with what you are saying here. I didn’t know it though until I joined the 100 Day Challenge! I am now in several other groups because of this and a great mastermind group and have met such wonderful people like yourself!
    It takes a village!
    To your success,
