Get Focused

Get focusedHow many times have we been told to get focused, and we thought we were focused…then we set off on our course only to learn later that we weren’t focused enough.

When starting off with anything, no matter what we are doing, there is a learning curve.  We may think we have put everything in place correctly the first time, but as any business owners know, there’s always adjustments to make, and tweaking to do.  Even after this is done, you may find more adjustments are needed.

So, what do you do?

See it. The clearer you can make that image, the better off you will be.  Patti Dobrowolski explains it so well here is this Ted Talk.

Believe it. How will anything work if you don’t believe that you can accomplish what you’ve set out to do?  You have to believe.  Otherwise,  you will not accomplish much at all.

We used to have a quote when I was growing up that said, “Seeing is believing.” If you actually flip that quote around to “Believing is seeing,” it makes the quote much more effective, because before you see it, you must first believe it.  Every dream starts with a picture in your head, and if you don’t believe in the picture, the dream will fade.

“All things are possible for him who believes.”  -Mark 9:23

Take Action.  Begin by taking action immediately to make your dream possible. Expect to evaluate, and tweak, your drawing and plan as needed. Do not become frustrated with this process.  It may be necessary to re-draw, or add more elements to you picture, to get you where you want to go.  Keep believing, and taking action, until you’ve arrived at your destination.

Even Walt Disney knew that power of the imagination and hard work.

“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

Review the above video again, and put into practice what Patti Dobrowolski is demonstrating.

Then, let’s get focused…you need to see the vision, so get out your colored pencils and draw it.

  1. Focus is extremely important and I think what makes us lose focus are 2 things, one being the shiny object syndrome (look a squirrel) and secondly, fear due to past disappointments and that will create another. It is important to first believe you can do something, and then stay focused on making it happen, thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi BG

That was a great talk. Actually drawing my vision isn’t something I’ve ever tried!

Even thinking about drawing my current state tells me part of the problem, needs major surgery to get towards the desired state!

Yes, I did actually draw it!

    Have a good weekend, Joy

  3. Hello BG! Great article and video my friend, It does all start with Belief HUH? And then ACTION!

Without this in place NOTHING HAPPENS! When I first got started online Oh I had the belief but I did NOT Know anything other then how to turn my computer on.

So I got to learning all I could but a year went by and I had NO results. HUM? You know what the problem was? I thought I had to know everything before I implemented anything!

SO NOTHING HAPPENED! Lesson Learned! Action is the ONLY Means to reaching your goals.

    Great Share. Thanks Chery :))

    1. Hi Chery, That’s quite an accomplishment. I also believe action is a must. I’ve gone from
buying everything in the book to becoming more selective with online products…and now
am implementing more. I think that our focus group helps also. When you get off track, they
pull you back in. Thanks for commenting.

  4. It is true ,focus is needed ,the energy flows where our attention goes .
With our intention on the goal we focus and take action.
If we believe in ourselves and have faith ,we will get to our goal .
Adjustments are always possible and can be done on the way.
    Thank you BG

    1. Hi Erika… I agree…you tend to have expertise in this area.
I actually loved the video and went and got some drawing things
to help focus. Thanks again for commenting.

  5. Hi BG,
Fantastic post! Focus is key to having success in all things.
I love the analogy of “SEE IT”, “BELIEVE IT” and “TAKE ACTION” all very strong ways to reach your goals. What is the point of seeing and believing if you do not ACT UPON IT and take the action needed to get to that goal?

    Have a great weekend 🙂

  6. I’m at a turning point in my online business likely because that belief was missing. I don’t think what I was doing was something that I could truly believe in. I now need to start taking action on my new direction but I admit to putting it off. The video inspired me to focus and start working.

    1. Hi Sue… I do understand. I loved the video so much also, that I went out and got sharpies, paper, and chalk.
I’m going to draw it. Maybe, I’ll do a video after about it. I’m so happy you’re on a new path. We all
need to find clariy. You will definitely have to share with us. Thanks so much for commenting.

    1. Hi Dexter, I do too. We are forever bombarded with “things” that distract us. I don’t think
it so unusal today, but we all have to find a way to break through it. I’m on the same
path with you… we’ll get there.

  7. Seeing and Believing are most definitely intertwined, and the result of these should be a passion to take action.
Something we really want should not be hard to focus on, we may just have to have allotted times to do this, depending on time restraints.
It is amazing how that video makes such sense, very inspiring…. and drawing it ourselves will surely include our feelings.
    Loved it!!

    1. Thanks Jacs. I loved this video and have tried to draw my own…
I guess I need to imagine that I can draw better… my skills
are not quite there. But nevertheless, I think this is a wonderful
way to go. Thanks so much for commenting.

    1. Hey Kathryn, That is really cool. Another hidden talent you are devulging…
I may have to get you to draw mine because I can’t even draw good stick
figures. I agree that this is a great option to gain clarity.

  8. Excellent article, BG.

It really gets to the heart of the journey we call success, or achievement.

I love the video… very inspirational.

It’s a great idea to draw out our big vision because then we have something we can really believe is possible.

And we can see exactly what’s necessary to make it happen.

Drawing the vision is an important part of visualization. That’s why so many strategy plans start out with having you list your top 10 goals, or 50 titles for your new project or whatever.

It’s not a picture, but it’s a graphic that starts finding its way into your brain.

Once we have that picture, we can start to focus on it. Otherwise, we try to focus, but with nothing to focus on. It loses its power to move us into the action and process required to make your dreams happen.

    1. Hi David. I totally agree. We hear this over and over about visualization
but I think many of us don’t get clear enough on it. I love how she
protrayed all of that in the video. Thanks so much for stopping by.
      You input is always valuable.

    1. Hi Jenni, I agree. And the biggest problem some of us have is that
we feel we are focused until we see we aren’t focused enough. I know
I will have to revise and revisit. Thanks for commenting.

  9. Ahh, focus! Such a huge ability to have, yet so many lack it. When working with my clients, I ask them to block out time in the daily calendars for specific focus time. When they do, they get excited over how much they were able to accomplish. It makes them feel productive and encouraged.

The same holds true in our personal and spiritual life. When we focus on God’s Word, we feel powerful and encouraged. When we focus on our family, we feel inspired and have a sense of belonging.

Focus is so important in every area of our lives. So we need to “focus” more on being focused. 🙂

Great topic, BG…thanks so much for sharing!!

  10. Hi BG,

I love this post and video!! Focus is essential to get anything accomplished. My new motto is See it, believe it and take action!!

She is great for helping people get clarity. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.

  11. BG, this was a very inspirational post.

You are so right. We often think we are focused, but when the results aren’t what we expected, we need to go back and see where we left the path and why.

I am a firm believer in creating a plan, following the plan, tweaking the plant, following the plan (repeat). Then you’ll get where you planned to go or maybe do even better than what you set out to do.

Focus: I’m a photographer and I know all too well how we have to focus or we’ll forever be a “low-resolution” image of what we were meant to be.

    Looking forward to more posts!

    1. Hi Monna, I agree… sometimes it is so hard. That’s one thing I’m going to have to work on myself is making sure that “busy work”
is not deterring me from the important stuff. I know that some of the busy work has to be done to run your business. It’s not
always fun… but it has to be done. Thanks for commenting.
