All Things Old Become New Again
I love reading and don’t often get to spend a day just reading. Today I’ve sat down and read. I’ve read for enjoyment, and to find articles for inspiration… You know those things that perk you up, draw you in, and make you want to give your two cents worth to the world.
With reading different articles about young adults who choose not to have children, different international cities, the benefits of foods that help you sleep, and increase your health and longevity, I’ve come to realize that I’m in a place in my life where my “bucket list” is not completed.
I haven’t traveled as much as I’ve wanted. I haven’t written that book that I’ve dreamed of. I haven’t found that little piece of sanctuary that’s just ours to share with our children and grandchildren.
So where does that leave me?
In a good place, actually. Though, I have not done all the things I’ve wanted, I have gotten to spend many years (close to 35) with an amazing man. I have a beautiful family, and remarkable loving friends. This year marked our 40th year since graduating from high school, and I’ve gotten the chance to reconnect with friends I haven’t talked with in a long time. (We may sound old, but we’re not!)
So how does this “old” thing become new again?
By delighting in what I have.
Have you closely examined a bee on a flower lately? (ok, so I’m not a photographer.) It happily buzzes along gathering all the sweet nectar of life. I want to do that…gather the honey of life.
La Dolce Vita…. the sweet life.
I’ve gotten to watch a boy enamored with bugs. His every whisper is,”Beetle. Beetle.” And there’s an angel I know whose joy includes singing and dancing on a whim. Plus, there’s more- our new coming attraction- another sweet, silky-skinned girl who will be the recipient of our every “oo” and “aww.”
Don’t get me wrong, our children are a blessing, but I’m convinced that God’s bees have saved all of their sweet nectar to plunk it on all the grandchildren of the world. If there’s one point in time I’m glad history repeats itself, it’s here.
That “bucket list”… I’ll still get to it. My dreams will continue, and I will see new things from slightly older eyes.
But, as for now, all things old thing are becoming new again, as life brings forth new life.
