So, you’ve done your homework and have decided what you want to blog about, or what affilitate product you want to promote.

Now that you have your blog or product in mind, I have a few questions and tips for you.
Do you have a domain name?
Do you have a hosting company?
Do you know how to use a site template for posting?
Do you have an anti-spam plug-in?
Do you have an e-mail marketing software or service?
Do you have a way to promote your site?
Do you have a mentor?
These are just a few of the beginning steps for blogging or affiliate product promotion. Of course, you may have figured out a way to blog or promote products without all this.

Not all of us are that together, but some are. For those of you who don’t have it all figured out, then here are a few steps for you:
Choose your domain name. A lot of people like to brand themselves. Some like to get started with a domain name that is keyword friendly to what you are blogging about, or the product you’re promoting. I’m going to give you what I chose and I’m currently affiliated with only one of them. I just like these products. You choose for yourself.
For my domain, I went with Name Cheap. They have inexpensive domain names, and your domain can be pointed toward your hosting agent. You can host with Name Cheap if you like.
I chose Hostgator for my hosting company because they have 24/7 support by phone. Some hosting companies only have e-mail support and you have to wait for them to get back with you. They are good companies but, there’s nothing greater than having someone walk you through something you have not an inkling about, especially when you needed them yesterday.
The site template is a program within your c-panel (control panel) of your hosting company that gives you the necessary tools to write your blog, or promote your affiliate product with. It is like a document writer within the system. I chose WordPress. You’ll find WordPress inside of Fantastico. This is a program that is easy to use, and has numerous free templates.
An anti-spam plug-in stops all of those spammers from hitting your site/sites with unwanted comments or products. I like Akismet. If you have more than one website, Akismet has a service plan where you can pay one price to monitor multiple websites. They take care of the spam for you.
An e-mail marketing software or service is a way to capture names from your site to build a lists of clients to blog and promote your products to. I went with AWeber. You also are able to use this service for your various sites.
Site promotion is very necessary for your domain to be successful. You have to get your name out there, your product and blog. Subscribe to other blogs, read product reveiws, use Facebook and Twitter to bring clients in. Submit articles to e-magazines. Also, use word of mouth. Get your friends to help bring others to your site. I personally submit articles to Ezines.com, I use Twitter and Facebook, and I read and subscribe to other blogs. Get acquainted with like minded folks and promote your site.
Having a mentor saves you a lot of time and money. You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. This is someone who’s already been where you are, and can show you an easier path, tips and insider secrets to the path you’re traveling.
Now that you have a few of the beginning steps down, have fun, get busy, and enjoy the journey. Success may not be right around the corner, but it’s on your path.
