Steven Covey is known for being a master in the field of leadership and executive training. His “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” published in 1989 has been a text-book standard for professionals for many years, and with Covey’s recent passing on July 17 of this year, many of us are revisiting those principles that made him famous.
I only had to go as far as my back office inside of Network Marketing Vt to download Steven Covey’s “7 Habits” adapted for networkers.
In this pdf version of the “7 Habits” I found his landmark principles here.
1. Be Proactive
Many conclude that being proactive is only a thinking phase…it is also an action phase. Inside of your network marketing business, make sure your plans are made and written down. Foresee potential obstacles before they happen, and have more than one solution on hand for those problems that may arise.
2. Begin With the End in Mind
Have a vision of where you want to go, and work your way backwards from there.
3. Put First Things First
Don’t put the cart before the horse. Always do the necessary first, and tackle the other things after.
4. Think Win-Win
Have items and plans of mutual benefit for your downline, associates, and for yourself. We all deserve to have some wins, though sometimes compromise is necessary.
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
When conflict, or confusion, arises in a situation, it’s best to put yourself in the other person’s place to see their side of the picture so that you can understand where they are coming from. It gives you the opportunity to evaluate all sides, before making your point of view known.
Bring the best of the best ideas together for mutual benefit. The sum of the product is greater than its parts.
7. Sharpen the Saw
Learn, grow, improve your skills, and be the master of your domain.
Covey’s legacy will be remembered, and his numerous books, and leadership principles, will be a benefit to all for years to come.
